Silverfish/Mukene is a highly nutritious sardine-like fish found in Lake Victoria, which is also highly sustainable. Silverfish/Mukene has 20 amino acids, it is 54% protein and also contains Omega 3, Omega 6 and other beneficial fatty acids. All of these components are essential for health development; in adults, it improves energy, reduces inflammation, boosts immunity, increases blood flow, increases mental health as well as having substantial benefits in helping the body treat chronic ailments and diseases. In babies and young children, these nutrients are essential in neurodevelopment, optical development and promoting healthy growth of the bones as well as muscles. The dried and salted product does not require a cold chain which makes it an ideal food source for impoverished areas, especially in Uganda.
